Chinese Health Forum October 13, 2018

This year marks iCON’s 10-year anniversary. Celebrating 10 years of service and partnership with the Chinese community, iCON is preparing to host a free Chinese health forum expanding on the theme of “Healthy@Home: Living Well with Chronic Conditions”. The forum will be held on October 13, 2018 at the Fraserview MB Church in Richmond, BC.

A Coming Together of Health Systems

Event posterThis collaboration between the UBC Faculty of Medicine Digital Emergency Medicine, First Nations Health Authority, Island Health and Vancouver Coastal Health seeks to better inform Island Health care centers about incorporating traditional medicine into everyday practice, gathering physician input and perspectives in system redesign, and optimizing the health and wellness of all patients and families.

Dialogues were held at:

  • March 19, 2018 at Si'em Lelum Gymnasium, 5574 River Rd. Duncan, BC
  • March 21, 2018 at Quinsam Centre Gymnasium, 2005 Eagle Drive, Campbell River BC.

Anticipated Outcomes:

  1. Improve participants appreciation of other perspectives, and expand their thinking of how to attain "patient-centered care" through traditional practices and acute care.
  2. Generate ideas and insight on how to best shape policies and strategies in acute care settings to facilitate access to traditional practitioners and practices for patients who request it.
  3. Establish suggestions for developing guidelines for health professionals to use when interacting with traditional practitioners.

A Coming Together of Health Systems Workshop

A Dialogue between Traditional Practitioners, Indigenous Community members and Health Professionals

Recognizing the importance of harmonizing traditional medicine with western medicine, this workshop invites traditional practitioners, indigenous community members, patients and caregivers, and health professionals from acute care settings to participate in an interactive half-day workshop.

2016 Chinese Health Forum

Forum presentersOn December 3, 2016, iCON held a free Chinese Health Forum: Healthy and Happy Living at Home at the Peretz Centre in Vancouver. With over 300 people in attendance, and more than 80 people participating via webcast, the Forum attracted a mix of seniors and caregivers looking for tips and advice for living healthily at home and accessing community and government services for seniors.

On Mar. 27, iCON hosted the “Enjoy your life to the fullest” mental health forum. Health professionals discussed different stressors in life that can impact mental health, early recognition of the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression, and how to properly self-manage and seek help.
